Improve Search Engine Results

One sure and easy way to improve search engine results on major search engines is to write good content. I don't mean fluff. I mean good content that will make others link to your site. Content so good that others will want to bookmark your site. Content so persuasive that it will make others want to read every word you have written. This of course means you should not be copying content from other sources. Copying content can easily become obvious to the search engines. So just don't do it! Write original and clean copy that will make others truly appreciate the useful information you are providing them. Either make it extremely informative, very funny or both.

Although the key component to achieving higher results is still link building, it is followed by writing relevant content on your pages and making others link to your site and bookmark your site. When Google was not around yet, we were optimizing our client's websites around search engine companies like Yahoo, Lycos and Altavista by content writing, implementing unique meta tags, alt tags and keyword rich filenames. When Google came on the scene in 1998 many things SEO began to change.

Other items to improving search engine results and rankings include writing relevant title and meta description tag, as well as using proper alt tags on your images.

Finally, you should have a "traditional" sitemap that is visible to your readers and a sitemap.xml file which is for robots like the Googlebot.

Many people ask me if they should outsource content writing and I always tell them that I am of the opinion they should not. Why do you think an outside source is going to know more about your business than you are? An outside source can probably do some research on your product or service and write you great fluff, but that is all it will probably be. It is always best you write your own content. It is okay to hire someone to re-write your content, but it is probably not a good idea to hire someone and allow them to write about your business without you leading them every step of the way.

That is how you can improve search engine results and rankings for your website.
