SEO (search engine optimization) is an ever-evolving task. What may have worked for you for years, may not work anymore. We get calls all the time at the office of someone saying they were on the first page, now they are on page 3 or 4 for their most coveted keywords. Of course, they complain about Yelp listings dominating Google SERPs, but that is how things are, for now. You just have to deal with the fact that Google does play some role in editorial content. The engineers may feel that lots of searchers may benefit from Yelp results. If you don't like those Yelp listings, you can always leave feedback for Google, which is located on the bottom of each Google search results page. However, going forward, you will need to have far better SEO to be able to outrank a Yelp listing. Is is possible? Of course it is! You just need to have compelling on and off-site SEO in place. In the end, no matter what you read about SEO, it is short-lived. What works today, may not work tomorrow, and what worked for years, may not work today. This is the life-cycle of an SEO campaign. That is why it is important to have the right SEO Company working on your site, and only use white-hat method to rank sites. It is the only way to sustain great search engine rankings through each Google refresh.
